The Village Pearl Newsletter October 2008

October's Thoughts

Dear friends;

After a long summer break we have started the womens group again, and I cannot tell you how much I missed everyone. It made me so aware of the fact that I need this group of hope, love, compassion and understanding more than anyone who showed up. I am constantly reminded of what is important. As we enter our 3rd year at the Village Pearl, it is not about what book or scarf that we may sell, but more about the bussiness of connecting, one human spirit at a time. We are grateful for all the support, but mostly we are grateful for the opportunity to be here and continue to build our community. Thank you all, you matter greatly to us and we appreciate you beyond measure.

Light and Love, Judy

Green Notes

Laundry tips;

Wash your clothes in cold water using cold-water detergents whenever possible.

Wash and dry full loads. If you are washing a small load, use the appropriate water-level setting.

Dry towels and heavier cottons in a separate load from lighter-weight clothes. Don’t over-dry your clothes. If your machine has a moisture sensor, use it.

Clean the lint filter in the dryer after every load to improve air circulation.

Use the cool-down cycle to allow the clothes to finish drying with the residual heat in the dryer.

Periodically inspect your dryer vent to ensure it is not blocked. This will save energy and may prevent a fire. Manufacturers recommend using rigid venting material, not plastic vents that may collapse and cause blockages.

Healthly corner by Dr. Bye

Heart burn medications destroys digestion

So many people have reflux or heart burn. This is a dangerous condition that can lead to esophageal cancer. The standard of care is to use acid neutralizers like Tums or Rolaids or a prescription drug like Nexium, or Prilosec. All of these have some effect in relieving the symptoms of heart burn, but do not address the cause. The cause is low stomach acid. How can low stomach acid cause heart burn? If the stomach acid is low it relaxes the muscle that separates the esophagus from the stomach and it takes longer for the valve at the end of the stomach to open. So if the exit valve is not opening and the entrance valve is relaxing the food refluxes back up the esophagus. Even though the stomach acid is low, it still burns the esophagus. One helpful hint is no liquids with your meals. Water etc. dilutes your stomach acid. You need stomach acid to digest your food and absorb certain B vitamins, Calcium and Iron. For those taking heart burn medications you are destroying your digestion which leads to malnutrition, simple carbohydrate and sugar cravings, osteoporosis and inflammation in the body.

The Crystal Corner by Richard Bryant

richardbryant@windermere.com

Quartz,---more than any other crystal, holds the title of Most
Influential for Earth and Humanity. In fact, you wouldn't be far off
the mark if you called Earth Planet QUARTZ. Roughly 6 % of the
volume of Earth's crust is composed of all the forms of quartz!!
Quartz preceded the plant and animal kingdoms, and paved the way for humans on Earth by creating a crystalline/magnetic domain. The energetic field surrounding Earth is a combination of magnetism and
quartz energy, and this is the field within which our consciousness
functions. This is why quartz crystals work so well as amplifiers of
consciousness, and as partners in healing and meditation. Many
crystals---for example, amethyst ---are merely variations of the
fundamental form of quartz. We have quartz-like structures within our body that serve many
functions, and birds have quartz-like structures in their brains which
are thought to be the key to their amazing ability to migrate over vast
distances. If you'd like to carry a small quartz crystal with you in a medicine pouch, two forms are highly recommended---a double terminated 'point', a small sphere, or both. Let your intuition guide you to the quartz crystal that's right for you.

Living Feng Shui by Shirley Grabner

Living Feng Shui
Whether you are an avid follower of current events or not, one is bound to be inundated (and affected) by news regarding the present and future, as well. Times are changing for all of us, and the final outcome remains to be seen. With such serious matters currently at hand, I thought a quick and easy list of a few Feng Shui tips are called for! Even if all kinds of current events and negative words are swirling around us, it is imperative that we allow our home and place of employment remain our sanctuaries to weather all storms. Therefore, a little Feng Shui can help enhance your overall prospects be it wealth, health and love, and allow you to breath deep and easy too, since Feng Shui affects your general well-being. If you have tried a few of these Feng Shui tips below and experience a sudden change of good, pass it around, we all benefit from good cheer around us!!

1. Always keep your home and office smelling fresh and clean, a little bit of home fragrance is a good idea too.
2. Remove all unpleasant odors, especially at the front entrance of your home or place of business.
3. If you have a work desk at home or at work, positive energy is able to move freely if you leave the space directly in front of you free of clutter.
4. Drains are never good when exposed. Keep the negative energy from the dirty waters to a minimum by covering them up
5. The phoenix is graceful and a clear symbol of great comebacks-legend has it that the phoenix rose for its own ashes after being almost destroyed altogether. Because of its strong symbolism, the phoenix is a very good Feng Shui piece for business persons and the homemaker alike for its regenerative luck properties.
